The very first match of the 1965 season witnessed one of the most remarkable in the Club's history.

Played at the not-too-delightful Central Park, East Ham on an overcast day, it was played on a damp pitch with an inconsistent bounce (but not dangerous) and we were dismissed for a paltry total of 14 from 12.3 overs. For Tennyson, E. Harris did the damage in taking 7 wickets for 4 runs as six 'ducks' were registered by the Belhus batters.

Tennyson then went straight in to bat (tea hadn't yet been prepared), but Don Pegler and Keith Davis were in top form as they reduced Tennyson to 10 for 6 when tea was duly taken.

Suitably refreshed, our 1st XI took to the field again and captured another 3 quick wickets, but Tennyson just managed to creep over the line to win by 1 wicket in 15.4 overs. Don Pegler took 5 for 1 and Keith Davis 4 for 14.
