Rye (Sussex) v Belhus Cricket Club Youth Tour on Tue 06 Aug 2013 at 2pm
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 42 Runs
Match report
Belhus U13 162-9 dec
Rye U13 120 all out
Belhus made the short journey to Rye from their base at Camber for this second tour match, which was sponsored by industrial services company RIS. The early batting from the tourists was of equal brevity as they slumped to 27 for the loss of five wickets inside the first six overs. Overlooking the carnage from the non-striker's end, Joshua Reynolds remained defiant and eventually saw enough of the action to strike six boundaries in a solid knock of 39. He was finally caught by Harry Rhys-Jones off the bowling of Tom Fish (3-7).
Rye's opening bowler James Smeed had inflicted considerable damage to the Belhus innings and he finished with four wickets at a cost of 22 runs from five overs which included one maiden. Ben Garwood became an elusive scalp as the Belhus youngster, batting at number seven, took the game by the horns as he plundered an undefeated 51 runs, hitting eight fours along the way. Billy Turley became the third and final visiting batsman into double figures when he contributed 15 runs.
After the break, the home side lost their first two wickets before any runs had been scored. With the first ball of the innings, Zak Wilson (3-26) bowled Rhys-Jones and four balls later Wilson hit the stumps again as Smeed returned to the pavilion. Toby Farrow became a thorn in the Belhus side with an undefeated half-century, but wickets fell around him as Turley, Garwood and Tyler Kohl picked up two wickets apiece at a cost of 11, 16 and 6 runs respectively.
Like the previous match at Kennington CC, this fixture was also 12-a-side with batsmen being compulsorily retired when they reached 50 runs.
