Belhus Cricket Club Won by 65 Runs

Match report Belhus got their season off to a winning start with a 65 run victory over newly-promoted to division 1 Wickford at North Stifford. Captain Danny Joyce won the toss and elected to bat on what looked like to be as close to a batting paradise that is possible in April. Gavin Jefferies (11) went early, LBW to the typically accurate Pryke. The next 23 overs however were dominated by the bat as wicket-keeper Batsman Michael Fogg and Joe Joyce put on 140 for the second wicket. Fogg eventually fell for 68 from 87 balls, whilst Joyce carried on to magnificent 114 (94 balls). Ryan Wells made 12, whilst Dan Norris hit a brutal 25 from 12 balls to carry Belhus to 244-3. Pryke was the pick of the Wickford attack with 1-18.

In reply, Wickford's innings struggled to get going during the fielding restrictions, thanks to Kenyon (1-35) and a miserly (2-12) from veteran Martin Guilbert's 8 overs. Matt Lewis Jnr then chipped in with a vital '3for', with Owen Jefferies chipping in 1-37. New recruit for Wickford, Jon Pratt made 86 not out from 130 balls whilst Craig Smith hit a brutal 36. Skipper Danny Joyce said after the game 'We are very pleased with our first performance of the season - it was a good all round performance against a good Wickford side who I am sure will do well in division 1. We would like to thank Wickford, and in particular Captain Andy Baker for a good game, in a good spirit to kick off the season.'
