Match report Unfortunately stand-in skipper lost the toss in this 40 over encounter and Belhus were inserted on a 'green top' This decision was vindicated as the home side reeled at 13 for 3 with Clark, Suhail Shahid and the in-form Mendham soon back in the hutch, the latter bowled all ends up first ball. And later 25 for 4. John Wilson made a defiant 21 until he was bowled attempting a big hit and Newton also made double figures with 13. At 70 for 7 things didn't look good and skipper Stonham instructed John Wilson to make an emergency call to Mike Randall who was doing the tea informing him to get his finger out and bring it over sharpish! Fortunately, there was no need in the end to rush as Stonham(51) knuckled down to craft a good fifty batting at No. 8 and with support from youngster Tyler Kohl(10)to push the score to 130 for the 9th wicket. Belhus were finally bowled out for 135 with 7.1 overs remaining. Best of the visitors' bowling came from Thorpe- Apps who took 3 for 4 destroying the top order.

In reply, Writtle lost early wickets as Williams and and Stonham gave nothing away reeling at 24 for 3 but opener Syed stood firm to make 54 until he was L.B.W. to Wilson. Steady middle order contributions on a wicket that was difficult from Darvill(15), Jaffer(17) and Mari(15 n.o.) saw Writtle home by 3 wickets but it did take 36.5 overs (4.3 more than Belhus batted). If only Belhus had batted their overs out. Best bowling came from Stonham with 3 for 17 off eight and Matthew Williams who also conceded just 17 runs and claiming one wicket. John Wilson also had a bowl and bamboozled number nine Raz with a 'straight one' to claim 1 for 29 from six in a rare bowl for the club.
