Ben Kent led the way for Belhus with a fine 38 until he was compulsorily retired under playing regulations in this South Essex Youth League match at Rayleigh Town Sports Club on Thursday evening. Kent struck one six and five fours as he and Jake Wolfe, with 11 runs, shared an opening stand of 60. Mathew Lewis played a cameo of 19 which included with four boundaries while Elliott Playle reached a personal best score of 30 not out.

Equally impressive was the talented Tyler Kohl, drafted in from the club's under eleven side. Tyler showed his potential with a stylish knock of 15 runs, which included two leg-side boundaries. Kohl had arrived at the ground direct from Mildenhall, where he had represented his school at the regional kwik cricket festival. He is now due an appearance at Leicestershire's Grace Road ground at the National Finals.

Meanwhile, in the Rayleigh Fairview reply, middle order batsman Ashley Faires top scored with 34 not out which included four boundaries and opening batsman Henry Barham was also undefeated with 20 not out. For Belhus, Playle completed a fine all round match with two wickets at a cost of just eight runs from four overs (one maiden). He opened up his spell with two wickets in consecutive balls, bowling Arthey for ten runs and then Keery without score.
