Belhus Cricket Club Gentlemen's XI v Pegasus & Corringham on Tue 03 Jul 2012 at 5.45pm
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 3 Runs
Match report
Pegasus and Corringham 153-5
Belhus 150-4
Pegasus and Corringham edged through to the final of the South Essex District Cricket Board Veterans' competition at North Stifford following this thrilling semi-final encounter. Opening batsman Ben Francis was on fire with a superb 81 not out for the visitors, producing six fours and two sixes in a powerful display of clean hitting. The most impressive Belhus bowler was Alan Maidment with 4-22 from two overs. In reply, Martin Guilbert struck 62 for the home side, hitting seven boundaries in the process, and there were strong supporting roles played by Richard Day, John Forrest and Mathew Lewis senior with 26, 22 and 27 respectively. With Belhus requiring just four runs to win with four balls and seven wickets remaining, Lewis could only watch in horror from the non-striker's end as Alan Patmore bowled Forrest and the next batsman was unable to get Belhus over the finishing line. Patmore finished with 2-20 while Robert Hutcherson picked up 2-37.
Pegasus and Corringham now face Stanford-le-Hope at Stanford Rec in the final on Thursday 19th July.
