Belhus had to settle for a draw in a match they looked favourites to win at Westcliff High School for Boys on Saturday. Dave Bullen top-scored for the home side with 50 runs and then took 3-38 as he induced a Belhus collapse after openers Tom Thompson (47) and Jim Robertson (46) had laid the foundation of the visitors' run-chase with their third successive opening partnership in excess of 50. Skipper Stuart Morris (46) appeared to have the game sewn up for Belhus but his dismissal combined with the fall of both Paul and Sam Hall for ducks in a triple wicket maiden over from Bullen meant that the the Westcliff total, which also included scores of 48 not out from Alan Hurley and 46 from Trevor Tredgold, proved to be just out reach of the Belhus team. Spencer Randon was also amongst the wickets for the hosts with 3-37.

Earlier young Sam Hall was the pick of the Belhus attack with excellent figures of 4 for 34 from 12 tidy overs. His more senior colleagues Alan Maidment, Cliff Cansdale and Paul Hall all picked up two wickets apiece.
