This Shepherd Neame Essex League fixture meandered to an uninspirational draw at Ockendon Recreation Ground on Saturday. Yet the game started brightly enough as opener Stephen Huckstepp hit a fine 74 from 86 deliveries and Jim Robertson struck 43. James Banner contributed 20, but Wickford staged a courageous fightback as no other batsman reached double figures apart from tail-ender Cliff Cansdale, with 12 not out. Leg-break bowler Black picked up 4-53 from a mammoth 18-over spell which included two maidens, while Ian Brandle claimed 3-50 from 10.1 overs (two maidens).

After tea, left-hander Jack Cubitt top scored with 37 until he was brilliantly run out by Stuart Morris with a well executed pick up and throw into the gloves of wicketkeeper Ben Kent. From the thwarted Belhus attack, Alan Maidment picked up 2-33 from 12 overs (two maidens), Paul Whitlock returned 2-36 and Cansdale 2-39.
