Chingford v Belhus Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 09 Apr 2011 at 1pm
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 30 Runs
Match report
Chingford 2nd 226-9
Belhus 1st 196-8
Belhus started both innings as bright as the early April sunshine but the response from Chingford's Richard MacGregor simply took the game away at Forest Side on Saturday. Belhus had made an impressive start when Rob Joyce (2-31) claimed a wicket inside the first over and Billy Winter inspired a middle-order collapse by collecting 4-32 which included two maidens in a fine eight-over spell. With Chingford on 134 for the loss of nine wickets, MacGregor launched a savage attack on the Belhus bowling. He hit no fewer than 15 fours and two sixes and finished on 94 not out at the 40-over close. The unbroken tenth wicket partnership was worth 92, leaving home team officials to check the club records. Nevertheless, the Chingford total was within reach by the capable Belhus team.
With opener Martin Guilbert striking a stylish 62 to add to his earlier four catches at slip, Belhus were on course for victory but they figured without the all-round prowess of MacGregor. He picked up three wickets at a cost of 30 runs as the Belhus middle-order, like Chingford a few hours before, malfunctioned. One notable exception was Ryan Wells with 45 while only two other batsmen reached double figures, being Joe Joyce and Connor Elliott with 25 and 11 respectively.
