Belhus came within a whisker of winning their first game of the season after a superb bowling and fielding performance followed a somewhat turgid display with the bat. Wickford had been reduced to 5 runs for the loss of four wickets, then 25 for 7. But number seven batsman Jack Stacey held his nerve to score a valuable 18 as Wickford recovered sufficiently to snatch a narrow victory. Jake Skingle, playing his first game for Belhus, took 4-11 from four overs, while Toby Reynolds took three wickets for four runs, three of which were maidens. Nick Peavot achieved a direct hit at the stumps from third man, to run out Wickford's opening batsman Edward without score.

Belhus welcomed back Lisa Cansdale to scoring duties after a long absence through illness. After the game, we received an email from the Wickford CC team manager congratulating us on our improvements since the last time we played them.
