Belhus Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v Hornchurch 4th XI on Sat 05 Jun 2010 at 1pm
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 6 Wickets
Match report
On a hot afternoon at South Ockendon Rec, the visitors were grateful to win the toss and bat first on a decent batting surface. Belhus did however start brightly with Alan Maidment bowling a lively opening spell with the new ball and being well rewarded removing both openers cheaply ending up with figures of 2-37. But Jamie West led a fine counter attack for Hornchurch playing an excellent innings of 121 not out. Ian Joyce was the stand out bowler for Belhus with his lively swing bowling gaining him superb figures of 5-70 on what was definitely a batting day. Young Daniel Dreher of Belhus should also be commended bowling six excellent overs for just 29 runs when the visitors where really looking to accelerate. Mike Squire also nipped in taking 1 for 5 before the visitors declared at 235-8.
This proved to be a very fair declaration by Hornchurch skipper Foxton as this meant Belhus would potentially receive in excess of 50 overs to chase their target. Belhus started their reply steadily with openers Nathan Turner and Lee Webber setting a solid base before Turner departed for ten. Jim Robertson joined Webber and they continued to battle on. Robertson bedded in whilst Webber grew more fluent and began to hit a flurry of boundaries which broke the shackles and put the visitors on the back foot. Webber finally fell for an excellent knock of 53 from 94 balls hitting eight fours. John Forrest hit a breezy 17 including four boundaries but when Darren Frampton was dismissed for a duck, Ian Joyce joined Robertson with 110 needed from 19 overs. The two combined in ideal fashion. Joyce continued where his bowling exploits left off to hit an explosive knock of 57 not out from just 40 balls containing ten fours whilst Robertson played the ideal anchor role compiling 65 not out from 99 balls with 11 fours. The pair added a fine unbeaten 100 run partnership which saw Belhus to their second league victory of the season.
