David Jacks and Kirk Laws injected some life into the Orsett innings with 50 and 67 respectively after a solid but slow start. Belhus seamers Alan Maidment and Paul Hall kept the pressure on the visiting batsmen. Maidment eventually finished with 2-59 from a mammoth 15-over spell.

At tea, Belhus were quietly confident of being able to reach a modest total. However, they lost wickets at regular intervals and had to settle for a draw after Belhus skipper Hall was eighth man out, spectacularly caught one-handed by the diving veteran Dave Kooyman at short backward square leg. Jim Robertson, Ryan Wells and Brian Edwards each made 25, while Ben Kent prevented an Orsett victory by remaining undefeated on 21 not out. Earlier, Cliff Cansdale took 3-41 from ten overs while Edwards picked up 2-32 and Scott Bayford often beat the batsmen for pace and picked up 1-19 in the process
