Old Southendian & Southchurch v Belhus Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 15 May 2010 at 1pm
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 3 Wickets
Match report
Belhus lost the toss at Shoebury Park and the home side elected to bat on what looked a good track. Belhus started well with some good, tight bowling from Alan Maidment and Rob Long. The game was going well for Belhus as they took early wickets reducing the home side to 30-2. But Prabhaker (36) and Linfield held the bowlers at bay. Indeed, Linfield went to make an excellent 102 not out as Old Southendians took toll on the tiring Belhus attack lifting their total to 230 for 7.
Belhus realised they would have to be positive to get the win. Jim Banner and Peter Clark opened the batting for Belhus, Clark was given lbw after only facing 3 balls, but the visitors fortunes turned as Banner ensured the runs surged forwards. The other Belhus batsmen supplied the opener with excellent support, as good partnerships ensued with Nathen Turner 23 and Jim Robertson 25. The key partnership came when Banner was joined by Brian Edwards who made 34. Belhus were well on top but suffered a slight tumble towards the end. But man-of-the-moment Jim Banner held firm to make 107 not out and take Belhus to the brink of victory. Rob Long hit the winning runs to give the visitors victory with five balls to spare. An excellent first league win of the season for Paul Hall's side and a great day for Jim Banner who batted with aggression and determination.
Well done lads same again next week please.
