Belhus Cricket Club Under 13B v Rainham (Essex) on Mon 17 Aug 2009 at 2pm
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 75 runs
Match report
Belhus U13B 186-5
Rainham U13 111 all out
After reeling at 22 for the loss of three wickets, Mathew Lewis and Craig Dalton combined to put on a record-breaking fourth wicket stand of 164. Lewis struck ten boundaries in an undefeated innings of 63, while Craig Dalton struck eight fours until he was caught by Reece Simms off the bowling of Charlie Amato for 60 in the final over of this 32 overs per side game at North Stifford. Dalton inadvertently picked up the distinction of being credited with seven runs from one scoring shot by completing two runs, crossing with Lewis while attempting a third run which resulted in an overthrow reaching the boundary. After Dalton's dismissal, Jack Martin-Hussey came into bat to face the one remaining delivery. There was no further addition to the score as Martin-Hussey was caught by McHugh at cover. Earlier in the day, Sam Hall contributed ten runs in the face of lively new-ball attack from Harry Light and George Gough. Light finished with 1-21 from five overs while Gough picked up 2-12, also from five overs.
After the break, Rainham opener McCarthy looked solid on his way to 26, until he was third man out, caught by Ellis Stevens at cover point off the bowling of Lee Tricker. At this point, the game was still in the balance as the vistors had posted 58 runs, but Belhus were able to induce a collapse to 68 for 6. Gough hit a dozen runs in the middle order to steady the ship, but the runs dried up totally when Rainham reached Nelson - the cricketers supposedly unlucky score of 111, losing their last two wickets on this total. Stevens picked up three wickets for just eight runs from 2.4 overs, Hall took 2-8 from three, while there was a wicket each for Eathan Morris, Rhiannon Jefferies, Lee Tricker and Joshua Reynolds.
