DOWN THE YEARS - 1969 - BERT FREEMAN 9 FOR 23:
Belhus 1st XI 187-6 Marshalls 1st XI 45:
On Sunday 25th May 1969, our 1st XI met Marshalls CC at Rise Park, Romford.
Batting first on a warm, sunny day, our 1st XI racked up a respectabe (then!) total of 187-6 declared from 39 overs, with Keith Clayton (55) and Geoff Morrant (50) stroking half-centuries.
In their reply, Marshalls had no answer to the pace of the popular Bert Freeman who ripped through their line-up in taking 9 for 23 from 11 overs (7 of his victims were clean-bowled) to dismiss them for just 45 to secure us a 142-runs victory.
It was Bert's career-best as well as being the Club's first-ever '9for'. And it also remains the Club Record Bowling Return for the 1st XI. Well bowled Bert.
