ON THIS DAY: 10 FOR 18

ON THIS DAY: 10 FOR 18.

At Belhus Park on 24th September 1961, in their final match of the season, our 2nd XI dismissed Heathcotians CC for 87 after our medium-pacer Albert Braybrook had taken all 10 Heathcotians wickets.  And in his 18.3 overs, Albert didn't concede a single boundary.

After tea, and no doubt feeling cock-a-hoop, our batsmen were coasting home to victory with our score comfortably poised at 77 for 5, requiring just 11 runs to win with 5 wickets in hand.  But then, alas, a disastrous collapse occurred as we lost the last 5 wickets for just 6 runs to be dismissed for 83 and lose by 4 runs.

So despite an analysis of 18.3 OVERS, 8 MAIDENS, 10 WICKETS FOR 18 RUNS, poor Albert finished on the losing side!

And to this day, Albert remains the only bowler in the club's history to take all 10 wickets in an innings.  A phenomenal performance - a pity about the result.
