Hutton (45/45) v Belhus Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 22 Jun 2019 at 12.30pm
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 5 Wickets
Match report
Belhus visited the lovely Hutton ground on Saturday needing a strong performance.
Hutton chose to bat first on a beautiful sunny day and made a very decent start...80+ coming for the 1st wicket and looked capable of posting a big total. However, the introduction of spin in the shape of Heffernan (1 for 45) and Scarlett (1 for 28) changed Belhus's fortunes, with the scoring rate dropping markedly. Tom Debenham (son of Ben Debenham...the old Orsett skipper and now a 1st class umpire) batted very well for 111, but Hutton were limited to 239 in their 45 overs which although a decent score, was not unobtainable. Sam George again bowled very well.
In reply, Belhus responded strongly...50 for the 1st wicket before Antonio (27) played on ( his last innings before returning to Bermuda) and then 103 for the 2nd wicket between Heffernan (59) and Lewis the skipper with 53. Hutton fought back with some tight bowling and fielding which curtailed Belhus's strong reply...and with 10 overs left 80 were needed.
However, just when the side needed an onslaught to gain an important victory...Imran strode into bat and hammered the Hutton attack all aound the ground. His 33 off 14 balls settled things in a very good finish.
A very good game of cricket that tasted even better after some cold ale. A top performance and an important win for Belhus.
