Established in 1999, TheJack Petchey Foundation gives numerous regular grants to programmes and projects that benefit young people between the ages of 11 and 25. The Foundation helps young people to take advantage of opportunities and play a full part in society. Focusing on London and Essex, grants are made through various programmes including Achievement and Leader Award Schemes, Projects Grants and Sponsorship.
We have been involved with The Jack Petchey Foundation for a number of years and many young members of Belhus CC have received an 'Achievement Award' for their effort, endeavour and achievement. We have also been in receipt of 'Leader Awards', where a number of our adult club members have been recognised for their efforts in making a significant contribution to young people.
Jack Petchey is one of the UK's most successful businessmen. Leaving school at 14 and after a short spell as an office clerk, he set up his own car hire and car sales business, subsequently branching out into property development and holiday resorts in the UK, Spain and Portugal. Born in 1925, he still continues to manage Petchey Holdings Plc and Petchey Leisure.
Through The Jack Petchey Foundation over £50 million has been donated to clubs, schools and colleges and other youth organisations. He was made an Honorary Fellow of the University of East London in 2003 and was awarded an OBE in 2004.
The Foundation has made a considerable impact on the lives of many young people and sporting and educational institutions, all of whom are indebted to Mr Petchey for his generous initiatives.
