Our Secretaries

As with other administrative positions, we have been extremely fortunate to have had some very able Secretaries since our formation in 1960.  Up until 1973, the role of Secretary embraced the Fixtures Secretary and Team Secretary responsibilities in addition to general secretarial duties.  Thereafter, the role was sub-divided and after our acquisition of the ground and facilities at North Stifford Village Green, and the substantial increase in the size of our membership, it became necessary to appoint a Facilities Manager and, more recently, a Membership Secretary as well as a Grounds Manager.

So although the position of Secretary is very different to that of the 1960s, it nevertheless entails a year-round commitment and we are grateful to those who have carried out the job in the past, who perform the role today, and who will head up the Secretariat in the future. 

Special mention should be made of four of our Secretaries who, between them, have clocked up no less than 34 terms of office - Andrew Merton (6), Jim Robertson (7), Barry Ruck (7) and Cliff Cansdale (14).  Marvellous.
