We have been fortunate to have had some quite excellent Treasurers over the years. Although some have been qualified accountants, the majority has simply been blessed with an innate grasp of money matters, a desire for accuracy and attention to detail - as well as a sense of good order.
Collecting (or chasing!) annual subscriptions and match fees and the ongoing task of organising fundraising events are just a few of the responsibilities that rest upon the shoulders of our Treasurer. But ensuring that expenditure is rigorously controlled and that the books balance at the end of the year, are the most crucial aspects of a role that underpins the financial well-being of the club and, ultimately, its very existence.
From a total annual income of £132 in 1960 (the club's very first year when a senior annual subscription was £1.25), to £tens-of-thousands today, the job of Treasurer does not get any easier. We list below those members who have served the club as Treasurer and thank them for their skill and dedication in keeping us afloat. We will avoid the age-old quip about our Treasurers owning new cars, but acknowledge instead that it is through their wisdom and dedication that the club is very much alive and kicking today.
