Our 1st XI needed to win this final SNEL Division One match of the season in order to gain promotion.

On a cloudy but warm afternoon at Upminster Park, Joe Joyce (104) and Matt Doran (106 - his maiden century for the club) carved a magnificent opening partnership of 209 to pave the way for Max Osborne to crash 37 from 21 balls and enable skipper Danny Joyce to declare at 274 for 3 after 39.5 overs.

In their reply after tea, Upminster lost Farid Butt to the very first ball of the innings but made a valiant attempt to chase down the runs before being bowled out for 168. Spinner Matt Doran took 5 for 65 and some fine catches and two smart stumpings by 'keeper Michael Fogg saw Belhus home to a 106-runs victory.

So after a gruelling season and some outstanding performances, 2019 will see the 1st XI enter the SNEL Premier Division for the first time since joining the League in 2009.

Thanks are due to Upminster skipper Oliver Peck and his team for the sporting spirit in which the match was played.

And 19-years old Matt Doran became only the second player in the club's history (after Richard Harvey's 121 and 5 for 14 against Norwood CC on 18th May 1980) to score a century and take a '5for' in a Belhus match.
