Match report Belhus won a welcome toss on a hot, summer's day. The strip looked very welcoming for a good day's cricket and, as in the MCC game played earlier in the week, so it proved.

Matt Williams and ZaK Wilson (promoted up the order to add bite to the opening exchanges) played well to see off the new ball on the bouncy, 'proper' cricket wicket. Matt batted circumspectly for 43 whilst Zak went for his shots in his pugnacious, crisp striking manner. Jake Wolfe joined Zak and together they pushed Belhus up to 263 for 2 in the 45 overs. Jake was a welcome return to form for his 43 not out and Zak a very good 136 not out. With his mum, Kim, sitting in the shade by the pavilion watching her son create mayhem, she had a smile like a cheshire cat at tea. The question though at teatime was ... was 263 enough in the arid, fast scoring conditions?

Hadleigh started like a steam train...20 after 2 overs and thrashing everything within reach. The previous week they had tied with Westcliff on 313 a piece! The turning point was the introduction of Billy Maidment. Bowling his left-arm over to a packed off-side field, he bowled beautifully, extracting bounce and movement. Antonio, in his usual manner, bowled full, straight and sharply taking out the opener and No. 3 batsman with inswinging yorkers. With 5 for 46, Billy's was an outstanding performance...he is an 'old-fashioned bowler'..hits the deck and bowls a heavy ball, continually hitting the seam and extracting movement and bounce where no other bowler did on the day. Mark Sansom and Charlie Lewis held 2 catches apiece to show the rest of the team how to catch.

On a very hot, draining day, Belhus got back too winning ways after the blip against Hainault & Clayhall the previous week - and celebrated remaining atop of SNEL DivisIon Two with a team curry and cold ale at the local curry house.
