A fine captain's innings by Rajesh Kanojia proved to be the marginal difference between these two teams at Gallows Corner on Saturday. Kanojia hit five fours and one six in a measured undefeated knock of 54, despite a much improved Belhus performance from the previous week. However, the ghost of not being able to bat out time and overs in full has not been fully laid to rest as the home side had the bonus of additional time to reach their required target. But a major positive was the performance of Mathew Lewis junior. He struck a fine 61 which included no fewer than six huge sixes and three fours, then followed up with 1-46 from twelve overs and accepted a sharp chance at Gully to dismiss opener Sampath Gamvasam for 25. The Belhus captain, Stuart Morris, also made a significant impact with 32, while Brian Edwards hit 26. In the Belhus total, there were eleven sixes hit and just seven fours, a reflection on the sodden outfield still reeling from the heavy early season precipitation.

After tea, Belhus paceman Robert Long had the unenviable task of bowling uphill but he responded exceptionally well claiming 3-28 from 11.2 overs. Cliff Cansdale picked up 2-31 from 12 overs (two maidens) while Jack Plane also picked up a wicket. Gidea Park and Romford were able to hold their nerve, as Abid Alaracu hit 23 and Alun Kullar held an end up as
skipper Kanojia saw Park home to a narrow win. Earlier, Mohammed Shazad Jabar and Nelson Lopes picked up 3-42 and 3-45 respectively for the home side, while Kanojia and Kullar picked up one wicket apiece.
