Stanford-le-Hope v Belhus Cricket Club Under 11 on Fri 25 Jun 2021 at 17:30
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 4 Wickets
Match report
Stanford (a) Friday 25th June - CUP
Sings “It’s Friday then, then Saturday, Sunday what?”
Sorry that’s a force of habit at my place of work, we have that song blasting for the last 30mins of the day after all the customers have left………
Anyways……the cricket.
Coach Hart and his merry band of cricketers made their way along the A13 for the second time this season for a game against Stanford, only this time it was a cup game.
As per competition rules, this would be a full game of cricket, therefore if a batsmen is given out, they would have to leave the field. So for a lot of the boys, this would be their first time ever playing in a game like this.
Skipper Oliver won the toss and elected to bat first.
The opening batsmen for Belhus were Reuben and George.
Reuben facing the strike first he wonderfully blocked the first four balls against the home sides best bowler. However the fifth ball of the over swung a lot and unfortunately knocked over the stumps.
With Reuben leaving the field Lewys was in to bat at number 3. Once the last ball of the over was dotted down, both Lewys and George battled well together ensuring they blocked any good balls and tried to punish any bad ones, to get some runs on the board for Belhus.
Their partnership came to an end on the fifth ball of the sixth over when Lewys was bowled and had to leave the field to be replaced by Oli.
George and Oli continued to try and build the score for Belhus and both batted wonderfully for the next 7 overs with a partnership including extras of 38.
Both boys then lost their wickets in the 13th over.
George was bowled in the first ball of the over and Oliver was stumped on the fourth ball.
Charlie and Vansh took up the mantle and their running and positive calling was excellent, both added runs.
Eventually, Vansh was bowled and this brought Will to the crease, both him and Charlie have so much energy on the field it’s awesome to see.
From the four overs the lads faced, they got a partnership of 21 runs, which included another excellent boundary from
Charlie.
Due to the nature of the competition, Finley, Ronnie, Joseph and Matthew did not bat.
Belhus ended our innings on 83-5 from our 20 overs.
Therefore setting Stanford 84 to win.
Stanford placed their best two batsmen at the top of the order which we expected and at first their ability and experience was a huge help to them.
However by the 3rd ball of the 5th over, both were off the field after we managed to pick up their wickets quite cheaply.
The first was a run out after excellent fielding by Finley and superb glove work by Reuben off the bowling of Vansh and the second was excellently bowled by George, which left Stanford 23-2 after the first 5 overs of their chase.
Bowling in tandem again with George, Lewys also managed to pick up a wicket after an excellent catch from Vansh leaving the home side on 39-3 from 8 overs.
Joseph, Matthew and Finley although they didn’t get a chance to bat, were all excellent in the field. They were all sharp to the ball and consistent with their throws and soon it was time for them to bowl.
All three lads bowled very well and only conceded 22 runs combined in their 3 overs.
Will and Ronnie soon came into the attack and both of them them took wickets with their first ball of the game.
Will’s was thanks to again super fielding by the visiting Belhus team to run out Stanford’s number 3 batsmen who was also their top scorer.
During Ronnie’s one over we managed to get two Stanford wickets. The first was a wonderful ball that sent the stumps hurtling towards Corringham and the second was again fantastic all round team play in the field to get a third run out of the innings.
After 14 overs of the innings, Stanford had managed to get themselves to 76-6 which meant from the final 36 balls they needed to score 8 runs to win.
Even with tight bowling from Oliver and Reuben the home side managed to get the remaining runs with 25 balls to spare, therefore taking the victory and moving into the next round of the cup.
The Belhus team were disappointed afterwards, however from us coaches there was nothing but pride.
The lads had to counter some hairy moments out on that pitch today and dealt with it with class, decorum and most importantly fantastic sportsmanship.
Each and every one of them are a pleasure to be around and take on board everything that us coaches as them to do.
Well done lads, heads up and move onto Sunday
Kind Regards
