Match report Barking & Dagenham Post League
45 Overs

Belhus 248 for 8
May & Baker 202
Won By 46 Runs

Before a ball was bowled, Belhus knew that if they won and Young Internationls lost away to Paslow Common, they would be Champions, So we knew what we had to do and the rest lay in the hands of the gods.

So with that in mind, Belhus won the toss and batted first and posted a very good 248 for 8 in their 45 over. All batsmen chipped in, but it was D Aldridge'S 60 with 7 fours and Rich Waters' 54 with 8 fours, that set the tone for the inning. M Clark hit 30 and A Cayless was 17 not out. Blowes picked up 3 for 48 off his 10 overs, so at the half-way stage we had to be very happy with the position we were in and hoped things were going our way in the other game.

May & Baker set about chasing th total down, but lost two wickets for 0 runs, the perfect start for us. A Sattar then batted well for his 30 which included 7 fours, K Friend rallied and scored a lovely 53 with 8 fours, but when he fell at 116 for 5 in the 32nd over, Belhus were in a strong position, but still none the wiser what was happening elsewhere.

R Williams scored 22 and Duckmanton 16, but it was Ilyas that set the innings a light batting at 8 and with nothingto lose he smashed 57, which included 9 fours and 1 six, before he hit his own wicket and the game was ours.
Rob Waters picked up 3 for 55, D Aldridge 2 for 23, P Hall 2 for 29 and J Robertson 2 for 48.

So we had done our part and now the wait was on for the result in the other game. About 20 minutes later the news came through, Palsow Common had inflicted the defeat we had prayed for on Young Internationals and we had become Division One League Champions for the first tme in the club's history and the party went on into the early hours of the morning.

Captain W Read paid the utmost respect to his side that had played some fantastic cricket throughout this campaign and dedicated the win to his grandad who passed away on the 6th of this month after a long battle with cancer. Read said "he knew most of the boys really well and would have been so proud of us all, RIP Grandad Love You".
