Match report This was the first tour match since the club's formation in 1960. Quite why we decided to visit Northern Ireland instead of one of the usual destinations for annual club tours - e.g. Devon, Cornwall - is unknown. Even the tour organiser, Andrew Merton, cannot recall.

We travelled by air from Heathrow with Aer Lingus on Saturday 23rd July 1966. We had booked to stay in two separate guest houses, one of which wasn't expecting us to arrive until the following day, Sunday! So the tour members who were booked into that establishment had to sleep in the hire car or on the floor in the living room at the other guest house (just a stone's throw away)

In this opening match, we came up against Ivan Anderson who had made his debut for Ireland against Middlesex only a few weeks earlier. Anderson was to become arguably the most complete Irish cricketer of all time, gaining 86 caps.

After declaring on 220 for 7 on a scorching hot day, Queen's used 9 bowlers in their efforts to dismiss us. And despite an heroic 46 from 16 years old Vic Davies, we just failed to hold out for a draw.
