Recorded in the scorebook as a 'practice match', this was the first-ever match of Belhus CC - played at the hospital's ground in Mollands Lane, South Ockendon.

Our 1st XI batted first and after a magnificent bowling spell by Hickford (who took 7 wickets for 30 runs), Belhus were dismissed for a paltry 52. Only one batsmen (Greg Arendse) reached double figures.

After tea, Club Chairman Major Patrick Pooler-Williams took 4 for 18 and we bowled out SOH for 25 to win quite comfortably by 27 runs - a fine start for the new Belhus Cricket Club.

The Club's first Treasurer, Bill Brooks, (subsequently Club President) kindly donated the cricket bat that he used in this match and it now sits in a display case in the clubhouse at North Stifford Village Green.
