This was a creditable performance against a team favoured to top the South Essex U15 youth league when the final reckoning is made later in the season. Belhus had nearly all of their bowlers returning economical figures, as Connor Day conceded just eleven runs from three tidy overs, while Tom Wood took 1-14 from four overs. Leg-spin bowler Owen Jefferies gave valuable support as a second change bowler, finishing his three-over spell with 2-14. Jack Martin-Hussey took the remaining Horndon wicket to fall when he dismissed opening batsman Zak Pryor, caught by Tony Ellis, for ten runs. Horndon's number three batsman Ryan Cutts hit five boundaries in a well-struck 25, before be was caught by Wood off the bowling of Jefferies, but the prolific batting in the number five spot from Joe Joyce ultimately made the difference between the two teams. The Essex junior squad member collected a valuable 39, quite often content with keeping the scorebook ticking over quietly by pushing ones and twos with the occasional boundary, four in all.

After the break, the first Belhus wicket fell with the score on 14 when Sam Hall was bowled by Connor Price for just a single, then number three batsman Wood was bowled by Sam Howard for three runs. Captain Billy Winter was next to go for 12, but Daniel Dreher finished undefeated on 13 and Lee Shipton scored one short of a dozen runs. Price finished with 2-14 from four overs, which included one wicket maiden, Howard ended on 2-21 from three overs.
