The Belhus top order had first knock on an excellent North Stifford surface in this South Essex U15 cricket league fixture with openers Owen Jefferies and Billy Winter both reaching the league's compulsory retirement limit with 36 and 37 respectively. Jefferies hit four boundaries while Winter struck four fours and one six. After the openers were undefeated but back in the pavilion, Daniel Dreher and Sam Hall continued to push for quick runs with 18 and 13, both undefeated at the close of the innings. When the visitors batted, Belhus did not have things all their own way. Aldwinkle and Pankahia put on 47 for the first wicket until the latter was bowled by Jack Martin-Hussey for 25. Then left-hander Downes, batting at number five, made the game a very close contest by striking six boundaries for a 36 retirement, but Fuat and Engwell finished at the close undefeated on 12 and 2 respectively as Grays and Chadwell fell just 19 runs short of their target. Tony Ellis emerged with much credit with the ball for Belhus. He started off his four-over spell with a maiden, then clean bowled Grays number four bat Daly in his second over. He finished with 2-10 from four overs, while Hall and Martin-Hussey finished with one wicket apiece.
