South Walsham v Belhus Cricket Club Tour on Fri 10 Jul 2009 at 14:00
Belhus Cricket Club Won By Three Wickets

Match report The final game of the tour saw Belhus visit South Walsham CC on Friday. Belhus were hoping to win the game and come away with a 'series' victory from their week in East Anglia. Former Club President Richard Marns took command of the side and invited the home side to bat in a 40 Over match. Openers Scales (38) and Woods (30) got the home side off to a good start with the bat and it was once again Paul Whitlock who applied the brakes for Belhus as he removed both openers as he took 3-37 from his spell of eight overs. This lifted Whitlock's tour haul to ten wickets in three matches and as top wicket taker for the tour he can be rightly proud of his efforts. Mark Sansom then took centre stage with the ball as the big hitting Neil Johnson threatened to take control of the match. Hitting five fours and three sixes, Johnson blazed to 44 off just 27 deliveries including and enormous steepler of a skier which Sansom bravely, though unsuccessfully, tried to catch as it fell (seemingly from outer space)- Sansom did get his revenge catching Johnson in the deep and then going on to bowl some excellent pacey swing bowling as he took 5-41 from nine overs. Belhus were suddenly on top and when Jim Robertson rolled his arm over to pick up 2-6 the home side were dismissed for 174. Richard Dopson took his weeks tally of catches to five with another two excellent takes in the gully/slip region as Belhus once again supported their bowlers well. It was a credit to all the tourists that very few catches were grassed.
So Belhus knew their target and were looking in trouble at 29-3. Richard Day steadied the ship with 23 but it was man of the week Paul Whitlock who truly set up victory. 'Whitters' crashed 56 from 64 balls hitting eight fours and a six. It rounded off a great tour for the whole-hearted cricketer who has come of age this season. Skipper Marns added 19 to keep things ticking and Jim Robertson added (21) in partnership with Michael Mcdonald (28*) took Belhus to the verge of victory. Mcdonald completed victory in fine style with a glorious drive over extra cover for six to round off an excellent tour for Belhus both on and off the field.
