Old Parkonians v Belhus Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 13 Jun 2009 at 13:00
Match was Drawn
Match report
An enterprising declaration from Belhus skipper Paul Hall made for an exciting climax to this fixture at Old Parks. Belhus were put into bat and responded positively. Dopson (19) and Stuart Morris (55) began the innings in a flurry of boundaries and the momentum continued as Chris Didd (returning from injury) made a fluent, big hitting 74 including two towering sixes. Brian Edwards continued his excellent form also making 74 not out and Jim Robertson cashed in on the good batting conditions aswell adding a sprightly 34 to set up a challenging declaration after 44 overs.
Old Parks responded well after the early loss of opener Bhatia for a duck, clean bowled by Connor Day as Y.Karunakaran and J.Vijayanathan both made fifties. Ricki Ellis bowled excellently on the prime batting pitch taking 3-39 and this spell swung the match back towards Belhus. But veteran Chris Nutt (59*) battled back for the home side and the game was in the balance as the close approached. Belhus continued to chip away as Edwards (2-58) and Hall (1-54)kept the pressure on and Parks were seven wickets down needing 14 to win from the last over. Despite the best efforts of Nutt and Ayaz Butt (16*) Brian Edwards kept a cool head and conceded just nine runs which meant the match was a highly entertaining draw. Belhus lifted themselves off the foot of the table picking up a valuable 11 points from the match.
