Match report Belhus Sunday II’s made the trip to Ardleigh Green for what was to be a most memorable game of cricket. Belhus lost the toss and were asked to bowl, with Ardleigh Green opening up with youngster Caylett and Abbot. Both openers were looking relatively comfortable on what was a fairly slow wicket until Graham Davidge who started with two maidens varied his pace, and knocked over Abbots middle stump for 14 runs. Davidge continued to bowl well finishing his 8 over spell conceding just 11 runs, and taking 1 wicket. Belhus continued to keep it tight with the introduction of leg spinner Owen Jefferies, and Ricki Ellis who removed Shorey for 4 runs with one that kept low, and Abbot for 17 runs caught by Brian Edwards in the slips. Ardleigh Green recovered well however, and were starting to push on until Jefferies forced the edge from Dibbs, caught behind by Darren Frampton. Shortly afterwards Lee Hawkes took a fantastic one handed catch in the covers from the bowling of Laurie Hawkes, dismissing Simmons for 14. Every Belhus bowler picked up a wicket in a very good bowling display, restricting Ardleigh Green to 136 from their 40 overs.

In reply Belhus needed to get off to a good start opening up with Mike Randall, and Danny Norris. Ardleigh Green started well restricting Belhus to 11 runs from the first four overs, however Norris and Randall soon got their eye in and pushed the run rate up to 5 an over after just 7 overs. With Randall playing solidly at one end it gave Norris the opportunity to show what he was capable of at the other, and he didn’t disappoint with what was a great knock scoring an unbeaten 92 runs from just 70 balls. Randall finished up with 33 not out, with Belhus reaching the target set by Ardleigh Green after just 23 overs to win by 10 wickets.
