Connor Day and Ian Havard staved off defeat with a crucial undefeated 30-run partnership for the tenth wicket at Nazeing Common on Sunday. Day finished with 35 not out and Havard 4 not out despite the close attention of the home fielders as they attacked in vain for the match-winning final scalp. All eleven Belhus batsmen made a contribution, with George Brooks leading the way with 40. Billy Winter hit 25, Roy Heffernan made 17, Owen Jefferies and Ricki Ellis struck 18 and 10 respectively. For Nazeing Common, S. Waters took 3-63 from eight overs and Barker claimed 2-38 from nine overs. Earlier, home opener Sturdy struck a fine 51 until he was caught by Matthew Clark off the bowling of Owen Jefferies for 51, while good supporting knocks from Achilley, 40, Barker, 32, together with Blair and Taylor, who were both undefeated when the declaration came with 37 and 25 respectively. For Belhus, Danny Norris was the most economical bowler, returning figures of 1-6 from six overs, three of which were maidens, while fifth change bowler Michael Cansdale took 2-29 from five overs. Havard and Owen Jefferies claimed one wicket apiece.
