Two opening batsmen, one from each team, featured prominently by scoring half-centuries in this 35-overs per side game at North Stifford (on Sunday 12th April 2009). Grays and Chadwell won the toss and elected to bat first, with Rob Baker striking a fine 70 until, in the 31st over, he was stumped by Michael Fogg off the bowling of Ricki Ellis. After tea, it was Fogg opening for Belhus who reached 52 in the 22nd over of the Belhus innings, he too was stumped, by Hymas off the bowling of Neil Samwell. Baker's half century came after 90 minutes at the crease and he faced 69 deliveries for his 50, facing 87 deliveries in total, as Grays and Chadwell closed on 181. Offering Baker good support were Mark O'Neill with 38 and Matthew Hills, with an undefeated 20. For Belhus, Roy Heffernan took 2-15 from three overs and also run out Abdul Stanikyai with a direct throw at the bowler's end from backward point. In the Belhus innings, only Danny Norris and Heffernan supported Fogg by reaching double figures. Norris scored 10 and Heffernan concluded a good all-round performance by scoring 26, though both were batting under the duress of a high run-rate requirement. Grays and Chadwell's Sunday second eleven captain Samwell recorded the day's best bowling figures as his left-arm spin yielded 3-22 from seven overs, which included two maidens. Matthew and Andrew Hills both picked up 2-14, while there was a wicket apiece for Imran Mohammed and Stanikyai.
