Belhus struggled against Premier division visitors in the Dukes League Cup at North Stifford on Saturday. Shenfield's opening bowler Matthew Salisbury claimed 4-21 from 7.3 overs (one maiden), while Tom Austin, Daniel Jacob, Philip Everitt and Thomas Fulk picked up one wicket each. For Belhus, Joe Joyce and Gavin Jefferies hit 36 and 32 respectively. After tea, Arshad Ali struck a fine 53 in the Shenfield reply, with Daniel Jacob seeing his team through to the second round with an unbeaten 49.

Shenfield included two players with recent first class experience in their side. Salisbury has played twice for Cambridge University this season, in matches with Essex and Lancashire. Against the former, he had the distinction of removing both openers, Tom Westley and Billy Godleman. While Ali has regularly appeared for the United Arab Emirates, his most recent outing was in a T20 match against Durham in Dubai and Ali has also played in a televised one-day international for his adopted country against India. It was a memorable scalp for Belhus leg spinner Owen Jefferies who eventually bowled Ali while Connor Day picked up the remaining wicket to fall. But the most economical Belhus bowler by far was the impressive Billy Winter, who conceded just four runs from his three overs.
