Belhus were thwarted right from the outset in this South Essex league match at the Dick Patmore memorial ground on Sunday (12th June). Tight bowling from the two Wickford openers, Joe McAvenney and Jack Buckley saw each of them bowl two maidens, meaning that the Belhus score remained on nought after four overs. But what is encouraging is that the Belhus batsmen are continuing to learn their craft and we again saw a stubborn resistance at the crease, demonstrating the potential that clearly lies ahead.

Billy Maidment, the batting star of the previous week, was dismissed by an excellent one-handed catch by McAvenney off the bowling of third change bowler Alex Hart for two runs. Mark Fogg was our top scorer in difficult, damp conditions, he hit two perfectly executed boundaries in his innings. Although Belhus used seven bowlers, the visitors were unable to make the breakthrough as Josh Perry hit five fours until being compulsorily retired when reaching the 25-run limit.
