Old Parkonians v Belhus Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 14 May 2011 at 13.00
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 8 Wickets
Match report
Old Parkonians 2nd 137 all out
Belhus 2nd 138-2
Old Parkonians won the toss and elected to bat at Oakfield on Saturday, but then found themselves dismissed for a below-par score against a keen Belhus attack. The home side only had two players in double figures, being opener Zafar Khan, caught at the wicket by Mark Sansom for 19, while Kirubagaran Jayapragasam, batting at number six, scored 66 not out despite the destruction going on around him. Belhus had a new opening attack; they welcomed back paceman Jamie Riley after several years absence and he picked up 2-30 from 15 overs which included four maidens. Owen Jefferies returned 2-30 with six maidens in a spell of 12.5 overs while Chris Baker and John Forrest each picked up one wicket.
In this corresponding fixture last year, Belhus openers Mark Sansom and Tom Thompson walked to the wicket and piled on a unbroken partnership of 221 to achieve a ten-wicket victory; it must have been disconcerting for the fielders to see the same pair walking out to start the Belhus innings. Although there was no repeat of the achievement the previous year, Thompson hit a fine 58 until he was bowled by Max Mukesh, while Sansom was trapped leg before for 33 off the bowling of Ian Simpson. Nick Marns and Scott Bayford, undefeated on 22 and 13 respectively, saw Belhus home to a comfortable eight-wicket victory. For the home side, Simpson finished on 1-46 from six overs and Mukesh 1-21 from 3.3 overs. Parkonians' opening bowler Jayaprakash Sivarajah was the most economical of the home set, his six overs conceding only a dozen runs which included one maiden, but was unable to make a breakthrough.
