Joe Downes and Toby Reynolds were both undefeated on 26 and 25 respectively with the only Belhus wicket to fall was that of James Bright, bowled by Smith for six runs. The Belhus strong point of positive running between the wickets helped Belhus once again to keep up with the required run-rate, though Downes did not have to run too much off his own bat as he struck six boundaries. The home side also had two batsmen reach the compulsory retirement score of 25, being Smith with 28 and Hudson with 27.

Belhus gratefully accepted this offer of a fixture from Old Southendians to coincide with the afternoon's County match being played just up the road between Essex and Northants. It was also helpful that one of our host club's key sponsors was Adventure Island - with the offer of substantially reduced wristband tickets for the day too. Our sincere thanks must go to Old Southendians for making these options possible.

This was Belhus' third win of the season, all consecutive and all achieved in the absence of the team's official assistant manager Mike Randall, who has been enjoying a Summer holiday. He's back this coming Sunday for the Pegasus and Corringham game - but will our fortunes change with his return?

As the youth playing season is nearing its close for the U13B team, may we take this opportunity to thank all the parents and other club members for their fantastic support this year; after the Pegasus game on 15th, we are hoping to find a suitable fixture for the Bank holiday Monday afternoon. We also send our good wishes to the U13A team, who have qualified for the South Essex play-offs to establish the overall District winners for 2010.
