Pegasus & Corringham v Belhus Cricket Club Midweek XI on Wed 04 Aug 2010 at 18:00
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 29 Runs
Match report
A poor fielding display coupled with some lukewarm performances with the ball cost the Belhus vets dearly in the final (reduced to 12 8 ball overs) at the Pegasus Club against Pegasus and Corringham. Pegs got off to a flyer in slight rain and dark heavey skys and had 47 on the board before a sharp throw from Lewis ran out Pearce for 20. On 78 Gray was bowled by Waters and shortly after Maxted skied to Waters off Cansdale for 35. Belhus sensed a way back into the game but continued mistakes in the field and some lusty hitting from S Francis (45 not out) and B Francis (13 not out)saw Pegasus close out on 137 for 3. Conditions improved for the Belhus innings but their fortunes did not. Edwards fell to the first ball faced and at 19 Banner was bowled by Sharp for 11. Bayford fell for 15 and Waters and Huckstepp set about repairing the innings from 33 for 3. The game finally slipped out of Belhus's grasp when needing 60 from 24 balls Waters was dismissed (21). Huckstepp (24 not out) and I Joyce (22 not out) made the total look respectable but in the end too many runs were required from too few balls and Pegasus picked up the trophy with a 29 run victory.
