South Weald v Belhus Cricket Club Under 13B on Mon 26 Jul 2010 at 18:00
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 2 Wickets
Match report
South Weald U13 123-6
Belhus U13B 124-8
Joshua Reynolds hit the final ball of the match for two winning runs in one of the most dramatic - and bizarre - endings ever known in the history of Belhus youth cricket. At the end of the penultimate over, Belhus required six runs from the final over, with Joshua and John Huckstepp at the crease. The first ball yielded four wides, which left Belhus in a comfortable position of requiring just two runs for victory from the remaining five deliveries. After a "dot" ball, John Huckstepp was run out in a brave attempt to scramble a single, which brought Nick Peavot to the non-strikers end. The next two deliveries yielded nothing, but on the final delivery Reynolds scrambled a single; there was an attempted run out at the bowler's end and, thinking the appeal had been answered in the affirmative, a South Weald fielder ran off towards the boundary in celebration, closely pursued by his team mates. Quite simply, Peavot and Reynolds realised the decision was "not out" leaving them the simplest task of completing a second, match winning, run.
Prior to the mayhem of a madcap ending, Harry Davison led the way with the bat once again with a masterful undefeated 27 against a lively opening attack. Callum St. Romaine gave valuable support with ten runs while John Huckstepp returned the visitor's best bowling analysis with two wickets for just eight runs from two overs.
