Belhus crafted a splendid victory at Roydon on Sunday after being in some difficulty at 41 for 5. The visitors pulled themselves out of the mire through Michael Cansdale and Danny Norris, as these two injected 84 runs for the sixth wicket. Norris struck ten fours and one six from 69 deliveries in a fine innings of 65, while Cansdale scored two runs fewer in an innings of 90 deliveries which included nine boundaries. Giving valuable support was Graham Davidge, who featured in a 57-run partnership with Norris for the eighth wicket by scoring 33. For the hosts, Hitch claimed five wickets for 52 runs from eighteen overs, six of which were maidens.

At tea, a popular opinion was that the Belhus total was below expectations and one within comfortable reach of the hosts. At 59 without loss, a home win seemed inevitable, but then Luke Clements struck the first blow by bowling opener Mee for 38. Then Ricki Ellis steamed in to take 3-49 from 15 overs, while Cliff Cansdale picked up 2-28. Clements finished with 1-13, as did Darren Wells, whose mixed bag of deliveries proved very difficult to pick. The Belhus fielding was excellent, with Jack Panteli in good form behind the timbers. Michael Cansdale helped himself to three catches in the covers, while Davidge and Clements also demonstrated a safe pair of hands.

As Belhus gradually picked up wickets, Roydon themselves were getting closer to their target and all four results remained a possibility. But in the final chapter of a pulsating match, Michael Cansdale bagged two wickets for eleven runs from 2.3 overs, one of which was the match-winning final wicket of Hitch, caught by Ellis at cover point.
