Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 20 Runs

Match report Belhus slumped to a twenty run defeat against relegation threatened Woodford Green. The main reason for this result was an outstanding all-round performance by the visitors P.Bhatt who practically beat Belhus on his own.

The visitors batted first at Ockendon Rec and were soon in trouble as Alan Maidment ripped into their batting removing the top four batsmen in a fine opening spell of 4-46 from 14 fine overs. This brought in Bhatt and he certainly cashed in. He made 117 in good style - with none of his colleagues scoring more than 19 it is certain that Bhatt's innings was vital to the Woodford cause as they made 203 all out. Cliff Cansdale continued his fine season taking 4-40 and Scott Bayford grabbed 2-29. Richard Dopson had a good day in the field pouching three catches.

In reply, Dopson got things off to a good start after the early loss of Panteli for six. Dopson (39) and Matt Lewis Jnr (47) saw Belhus to 86-2. Then Bhatt got hold of the ball and the match started to turn as wickets started to fall. Belhus still had a great chance with Scott Bayford (37) at the crease but with Bhatt having already taken three wickets he finished the match in dramatic style cleaning up Bayford, skittling Cliff Cansdale first delivery and then pinning Alan Maidment LBW to end the game with a hat-trick. Bhatt finished with the superb figures of 6-37 and Belhus were truly glad to see the back of him after this chastening 20 run defeat.
