Belhus Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v Gidea Park & Romford 4th XI on Sat 14 Aug 2010 at 13.00
Match was Drawn

Match report Belhus were forced to hang on for a grim draw on a drying wicket at South Ockendon Rec. Belhus opener Jim Robertson carrying his bat for a dour 59 from a marathon 143 balls, containing five fours as Belhus laboured to 150 for 8 from 48 overs after Gidea Park had made a sporting declaration of 200 for 9 also from 48 overs.

The visitors were inserted by Belhus skipper Paul Hall and had to bat in steady drizzle. M.Brett made a sprightly 51 and GPR skipper Greg Churchill also made 51 hitting some fine leg side boundaries. Young Sam Hall was the main wicket taker for Belhus in a fine spell of wicket to wicket seam bowling, taking 3 for 13 from his five overs. Scott Bayford and Brian Edwards also picked up two wickets each and there was one apiece for Alan Maidment and Paul Hall.

In reply Belhus lost Jim Banner early for 9 and with Robertson struggling to get the ball away the early momentum came from Nathan Turner who again looked in good touch compiling a solid 30 from 47 balls. The GPR attack were a constant threat as the wicket dried with the ball moving alarmingly off the seam at regular intervals. Turner departed caught behind and this started a flurry of wickets as the Belhus middle order disappeared with worrying haste. It was left to tail ender Rob Long (22) to combine with Robertson to steady the lurching Belhus vessel. The pair combined with contrasting styles, Long slamming 22 from 18 balls in comparison to Robertson's long patient vigil. Together they managed to see Belhus through to the brink of a second batting point. Long was bowled with a single needed to meet this minor landmark and it was left to opener Robertson and his ninth partner, Alan Maidment to get the remaining run and see off the last few deliveries to seal a draw. It was certainly not pretty from Robertson but his innings saved Belhus from defeat and kept his fine run of form going. The GPR attack were a constant threat and full credit to N.Lopes (3-43) and S.Patel (2-23) who were the visitors most successful bowlers. Belhus for all their stumbling, did pick up six points, GPR gained eleven for their efforts.
