Ricki Ellis took a hat-trick and helped himself to career-best figures of 6-26 from a dozen overs in an extraordinary afternoon's cricket on an excellent track at South Ockendon Recreation ground. Belhus had declared early through their enterprising captain Tom Thompson, with Graham Davidge top scoring with an aggressive 53. Ellis had earlier removed both Green openers in his first spell, but then returned with a vengeance to take four wickets in six deliveries. This greatly damaged the visitors' victory charge and, requiring two runs to win from the day's finally delivery, they could only scamper a single to backward point where Ben Marns fielded to prevent the winning run from being taken.
