Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI v Noak Hill on Sun 13 Jun 2010 at 14.00
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 1 Wicket
Match report
Belhus 2nd XI 162 all out
Noak Hill Taverners 166-9
The Belhus second eleven were involved in their second thrilling finish of the weekend, to follow on from their scores-level draw the previous day. Noak Hill were 130-9, but with plenty of overs left and two experienced batsmen at the crease, the result was never a forgone conclusion. Belhus felt that their total came up short of expectations on their excellent North Stifford surface, despite solid batting performances from the top four of Richard Dopson, Mike Randall, Jim Banner and captain Stuart Morris. These four contributed 36, 10, 43 and 14 respectively, but the middle order collapsed. It was left to U15 team member Lee Shipton, being selected for his first adult fixture of the season, to reach double figures with ten runs, then veteran Cliff Cansdale batted out the remaining overs with a patient 25 not out. For the visitors, L.French, E. Grove, Hodgson and P. French took 2-16, 2-55, 2-28 and 2-15 respectively. But the match winner was Hodgson with a fine 50 not out batting at number eight with six boundaries to see his team home in the final over.
